Believe it or not, but I slept well. I think it was the best night sleep in a long while. I went to bed nice and early not letting me get interrupted by anything. I did, of course, look at the clock periodicaly during the night thinking I'd over sleep or wondering how much more I'd have. But now is the real deal.
I have to get to the starting line. It's only about 15 minute from here, I heard. I hope to start out early and at a good pace so I can be back home before dark. These races, you always think you'll get lost. It's sort of eerie. There you are at full meditation and wondering at each intersection where to got. Most of the time, I'm not even there...I'm meditating and not aware of my surroundings. Let's hope I keep on course and do well.
Happy trails!

To Race Or Not To Race
Many of you have been asking if this will be a big race. I do believe now with my training being inconsistant, that tomorrow will be seen as a training run. I will try to go out strong, but will not let my ego get in the way. I will allow myself to be passed. I will smile with each mile and grin with each hill. Most of all, I will keep positive and see the big picture of my race year. This is only race 1 on the calendar. I have a whole season ahead of me. There is no need to spoil it. This race will be my long training for my others.
I peaked in January, and it's been hard since. I believe that this will help me back on track. What a better way, than to test my skill on hard trails in the mountains. I am a bit worried about my lung scarring. I've found that since I've gotten back from India, that I've been breathing deeper and not able to get a full breath. I only hope that I won't have a problem tomorrow.

MA: Day before the race
I got out of work today at 1:30 with a smile on my face as I KNEW I would beat all the traffic to Woburn, MA. I WAS WRONG. What should have taken me 3 + hours, took me 5 hours. There was traffic everywhere. Of course, my navagation system told me what was going on, but what could I do. At 2 hours into the drive, I felt like turning around and going home. 3 hours into the drive, Lee called and I wished I turned around and made it to NYC to see him. BUT here I am. I made it.
As always, I do think the day before the race is important, sometimes more important than the race itself. I will need my rest; however, my room is cold and I turned on the heat. What better time to check in and write.
After checking into my room, I found the smell of smoke. After a quick chat with Patrick the hotel receptionist, I got my room changed and headed out for dinner. Dinner was quick as I GOT filled quickly. I did get the rest of my dinner wrapped...not sure if I'd like something that heavy before the race, but I'll have it just in case.

Dad's Birthday
Dad turned 80 on March 23. At 80, he's still working full time. He is thinking about retiring, but only to start his own consulting business. He will never give up.
For his birthday, I took Dad, Mom and Lee to the city where we ate at a Spanish restaurant. The service was wonderful. From then we went to a wine bar. Afterward we hear Lou Donanldson at the Village Vanguard. It was a great time had by all.

Saturday's View
As you all know, Saturday is my first race of the season. I will be driving to MA on Friday and hopefully get a good night's sleep for Saturday is the big day. This race will test my fitness level. Unlike most of my other races where I'm competitive, I feel that my training hasn't been where it should be. I will make this race a long training run.
It is a tough 8 mile loop in the mountains with rough terrain. Yes, that means rocks and roots. I heard there even may be some stream crossings. I can only hope not. I do feel that my India race has made it's mark and will allow me to test my skill. I came back better on those terrains. Let's see if that is true.

Back In Action
I know that I haven't been consistent with my writing, but I have been with my workouts. Saturday was wonderful. I ran 18 miles...to Nyack and back along the water. I went at a good pace and even passed a few people. It felt great to be running outside.
January was filled with many treadmill runs. I really thought that Saturday would make a whole difference. The only problem is that it snowed on Sunday and now my runs will be back indoors on the treadmill. My path won't be runnable until the snow clears.
